Several Important Things to Know About Raising Ornamental Fish at Home

Keeping fish the correct way is critical! There’re several key points you have to know for raising ornamental fish at home: water quality, water temperature, stocking density, etc.

Aquarium fish is deeply loved by people for its gorgeous body color, peculiar body shape, and interesting habits. It can be seen in different rooms at home, offices, shops, hotels, restaurants, parks, aquariums, etc., and has a very close relationship with humans. Aquarium fish not only beautify the environment but also bring people a good mood. So, how much do you know about the main points of ornamental fish keeping?

Water conditions about raising ornamental fish at home aquarium

Water quality
The most important thing for raising ornamental fish is water quality, which includes water hardness, pH, dissolved oxygen, and viruses. Water is a living environment for fish, and water quality directly affects the growth of fish. River water, well water, and spring water can all be used for ornamental fish, but they must meet drinking water standards. Breeding some tropical fish does not need to adjust the water quality, but raising other tropical fish needs to adjust the water quality.

Water temperature
Fish is a kind of temperature-changing animal, so too high or too low water temperature is not conducive to fish survival and growth. The water temperature of the reared fish should be determined according to the physiological requirements of each fish and adjusted with light, heating, and supplemental water.

Dissolved oxygen
The amount of dissolved oxygen in the water is directly related to the growth of the fish, too high or too low are unfavorable to the growth of the fish. Usually at dawn and at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, fish are prone to hypoxia, so you can use the equipped aquatic air pump to inflate oxygen at the right time. Regular quantitative water changes can also increase the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water and improve the transparency of the water.

Illumination
Illumination generally refers to sunlight and light. A moderate amount of light can promote the thyroid secretion function of fish, which is beneficial to the growth and development of fish, but excessive light will be counterproductive. Light also plays an important role in the transformation of water quality and can promote changes in the body color of fish, and ultraviolet rays in sunlight also have a certain bactericidal effect. A 15-25W purple light can be installed in the aquarium that lacks sunlight. It can be irradiated for several hours every day, which is conducive to the health of fish.

Stocking density
Reasonable stocking density is an important measure to ensure the health of the fish body and the sanitation of the water environment. The stocking density is large, which affects the space of the fish body activity, and is easy to cause hypoxia and water pollution. The stocking density should be determined by the size of the water capacity, the type and quantity of fish, and the living habits of the fish. In short, it is suitable for the growth of fish. Generally, it is suitable to stock less than 6-8 goldfish around 10 cm in a tank of about 1 m.

Feed
The feed includes artificial feed and natural feed. The artificial feed is based on the type of fish and the nutritional needs of its growth stage, according to a certain proportion of protein, fat, vitamins, additives, etc. mixed into particles of different sizes. When feeding, it should be quantified regularly. Do not overfeed. The food should be eaten by fish within 20 minutes. The remaining food and excrement in the water should be removed in time to prevent water pollution.

Disease prevention
There are many kinds of fish diseases. Different fish diseases have different treatment methods. They must be accurately diagnosed before they can be properly treated. The common treatment method is to dissolve the medicine in water and bathe the sick fish.

There are many causes of fish diseases, mainly caused by uncomfortable water temperature, improper feeding, careless operation, and pathogen invasion.

Therefore, prevention should be given priority to, and the water temperature should be appropriate to ensure feed quality, reasonable feeding, and careful operation to prevent disease invasion, disinfection of container tools and fish bodies to ensure the health of fish.
